Using Dorset Buttons

I've made some of the Dorset Buttons from the kit I bought last month and have used them as the starting point for a new piece of work.

I've signed up for Maggie Grey's Workshop on the Web and one of the workshops in the latest issue was by Isobel Moore.  Do check her work on her website - here   As the workshops are all available only for subscription I won't give any details, but it is a mixture of painted paper, fibres, fabrics, machine and hand stitching, plus any embellishments you wish to use.

Crochet Takeover

As you may have gathered, I have rediscovered crochet and am currently in the process of making a temperature blanket.  As this is a year-long project I wanted something to do in the meantime so those lovely people from Wool Warehouse have sent me some goodies.  Okay, I did part with some money before they sent the parcel.

My plan is to make a bag following a pattern from Attic24's blog.   If you crochet too and have never visited this lovely blog I thoroughly recommend you to do so without delay.  You'll find it here - Attic24.

The bag I am going to do is the Jolly Chunky Bag (follow this link - Jolly Chunky Bag)

As I've dusted off my old crochet hooks, I thought they deserved a new place to live so last night I knocked up a roll to store the hooks along with a pair of scissors and sewing-up needles.  Now I know I will have the size hook I need when I am travelling in case I get diverted on to another new project.

Something different

I seem to have several things on the go at the moment what with Journal Quilts, Temperature Blanket and a patchwork project that is a gift for someone special so I don't really want to say too much about that at the moment.

But despite these I find myself sitting unoccupied some evenings and that is not something I enjoy!

A couple of weeks ago I was in Wimborne with my sister and we went into the Tourist Information shop just for a look and I came across a Dorset Button kit.  I had been thinking about having another go at Dorset Buttons for some time - well if you live in Dorset .........

I've finished one so as soon as I've done a few more I will post some photos.

March Journal Quilt

For this month's Journal Quilt I used Strelitzia Nicolai as the inspiration.

The stems of the leaves grow in a overlapping pattern which I interpreted using some of my own dyed fabric.   Once pieced, I machine quilted the edge of each strip and then machine quilted a leaf pattern along each strip.

Once again I have used the same fabric as in previous months to bind the quilt.

Inspiration

February temperatures all done

I've finished February on my Temperature Blanket and as you can see the temperature increased enough on a few days (13 - 16 deg C) to get some green rows.

Looking ahead at the higher temperatures on my chart I'm beginning to wonder whether I will use some of the colours I've bought so will have to decide whether to adjust the bands.  Think I needed to have a discussion with my daughter as she is using the same chart.
